Hi everyone, this is Jennifer Yoo and welcome to ENGLISH WITH YOO! 안녕하세요 English with Yoo!
Jump the gun
Jen: How did the interview go yesterday with that applicant?
Tony: It went well. I hired him on the spot.
Jen: Wait…already? Aren’t you jumping the gun on the hiring process?
Tony: Well, he had the skills and the characteristics I was looking for and plus, we need someone right away.
제가 Tony에게 “How did the interview go yesterday with that applicant? 라고 묻자, Tony가 “It went well. I hired him on the spot. Aren’t you jumping the gun on the hiring process? 라고 묻자, Tony는 “Well, he had the skills and the characteristics I was looking for 그게 말이야, 능력이나 성격 모두 내가 원하던 것을 갖춘 사람이라서 그랬어 and plus, we need someone right away 그리고 무엇보다 일할 수 있는 사람이 당장 필요하거든.” Now we’ll listen to the conversation again. Listen carefully.

When someone jumps the gun, it means they do something too soon and act too hastily. 이것 저것 따져보지 않고, 성급하게 결정을 내리는 친구에게 “You have to be more careful and not jump the gun. Here is another example. “Jake raised his voice at me before he even knew the whole situation, but later he apologized for jumping the gun. Now we’ll listen to this conversation for the last time.
