안녕하세요 English with Yoo! 의 Jennifer Yoo입니다.
English with Yoo!
Have you ever had one of those days when you have so many things to do or complete but so little time?
Today’s phrase is full plate / to have a full plate. Listen carefully!
Full plate / to have a full plate
Jen: You’re here with your friends and it seems like you have a really full plate on you today?
Jackson: Yeah! We’re going to go to the Air and Space Museum and ride the flight stimulators and now we’re going to get lunch and then later we’re going to the mall.
Jen: So, no time for you to really rest. It’s just back to back huh?
Jackson: Yeah!
Jen: How many friends do you guys have with you? One, two, three, four, five…
Jackson: There are 80 people, so…
Jen: Wow! That’s cool. Have fun guys! Bye~!
Jackson & Friends: Thank you! Bye.
친구들과 DC를 방문한 Jackson, 가보고 싶은 곳을 모두 방문하기 위해 굉장히 분주해 보였는데요, 그래서 제가 ‘…it seems like you have a really full plate on you today?
그래서 제가 “So, no time for you to really rest. It’s just back to back huh?”
오늘의 영어 표현 ‘full plate / to have a full plate’ 인데요, full plate means that you have a full schedule, have a lot to do and to be busy.
Full plate / to have a full plate
Plate, P L A T E 는 접시인데요, 그래서 full plate / to have a full plate, 는 말그대로 하면 ‘접시가 음식등으로 꽉 찬’ 이란 말인데요, ‘일정이 매우 빡빡하거나, 할 일이 굉장히 많은 상황’을 나타낼 때 영어로 ‘Full plate’, 또는 ‘to have a full plate’ 라고 합니다.

Now let me give you an example sentence in Korean and try to say it in English.
I’m afraid I can’t help you today. I’m very busy at work, and I’ve got a full plate at home too.
