스웨덴이 미군의 월북 사태와 관련해 북한에서 미국을 대변하는 역할을 하고 있다는 원론적인 입장을 밝혔습니다.
스웨덴 외무부는 18일 VOA의 논평 요청에 “스웨덴은 북한에서 미국의 이익대표국”이라고 밝혔습니다.
[스웨덴 외무부] “Sweden is the protecting power for the United States in North Korea. A protecting power is a state that has agreed to in some respects protect another state’s interests in a third country, usually in cases in which the other state has no diplomatic relations with the third country or has temporarily withdrawn its embassy staff from the country. We refer any other questions in the matter to the US authorities.”
이어 “이익대표국은 제3국에서 다른 국가의 이익을 보호하기로 동의한 국가”라면서 “일반적으로 상대국이 제3국과 외교 관계를 맺고 있지 않거나 대사관 직원을 일시적으로 철수한 경우에 해당한다”고 밝혔습니다.
그러면서 “이 문제에 대해 미국 당국에 문의하기 바란다”고 말했습니다.
스웨덴은 북한과 외교 관계가 없는 미국의 이익대표국 역할을 맡아 미국인 구금자 접견 등 제한적인 영사 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다.
