블링컨 장관이 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄하면서, 미한일 3각 협력의 중요성을 강조했습니다.
블링컨 장관은 5일 칠레 외교장관과의 외교장관 회담 뒤 열린 기자회견에서 북한의 탄도미사일 발사와 관련한 질문에 “우리는 일본 시민들을 위험에 빠뜨리며 일본 북부 상공을 날아간 북한의 위험하고 무모한 장거리 미사일 발사를 강하게 규탄한다”고 답했습니다.
[녹취: 블링컨 장관] “We strongly condemn the DPRK’s dangerous and reckless launch of a long-range missile that flew over Northern Japan, endangering Japanese citizens. I spoke almost immediately to my Japanese and Korean counterparts; and I think you’ve seen that we are working very closely together, both on a bilateral basis but also on a trilateral basis – the United States, Korea, and Japan – to demonstrate and strengthen our defensive and deterrent capabilities in light of the threat from North Korea.”
이어 “나는 즉각적으로 일본, 한국 장관과 대화했다”며 “미국과 한국, 일본이 양자는 물론 3자에 기반해 매우 긴밀히 협력한 것을 봤을 것”이라고 말했습니다.
그러면서 “이는 북한의 위협 속에서도 우리의 방어와 억제 역량을 입증하고 강화하기 위한 것”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
블링컨 장관은 “우리는 북한이 추가 도발을 자제하고 지속적이고 실질적인 대화에 나설 것을 촉구한다”고 강조했습니다.
[녹취: 블링컨 장관] “We’ve called on the DPRK to refrain from further provocations and engage in a sustained and substantive dialogue. This is something that we have proposed going back many months. Unfortunately, the DPRK’s response has been to launch more missiles. But we are taking appropriate defense and deterrent steps with allies and partners. We’ve called for a UN Security Council meeting, and we’re consulting with our partners on next steps.”
또 “이는 수개월 전 우리가 제안한 것”이라며 “안타깝게도 북한의 반응은 더 많은 미사일을 발사하는 것이었다”고 지적했습니다.
다만 “우리는 동맹, 파트너와 적절한 방어와 억제 조치를 취하고 있다”며 “유엔 안보리 회의를 소집했고, 다음 단계를 놓고 파트너와 협의하고 있다”고 블링컨 장관은 설명했습니다.
블링컨 장관은 “우리의 동맹이자 파트너인 한국, 일본 방위에 대한 우리의 공약이 철통같다는 점도 분명히 하고 싶다”고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 블링컨 장관] “But I also want to make very clear that our commitment to the defense of our allies and partners, Korea and Japan, is ironclad. We believe that North Korea would be much better served by not only refraining from these actions but actually engaging in dialogue. I think what we’re seeing is that if they continue down this road, it will only increase the condemnation, increase the isolation, increase the steps that are taken in response to their actions.”
아울러 “우리는 북한이 이러한 행동을 자제할 뿐 아니라 실제 대화에 관여하는 게 더 이득이라고 믿는다”며 “우리가 지금 보고 있는 건 만약 그들이 이 길을 계속 간다면 비난과 고립, 그리고 그들의 행동에 대응해 취해지는 조치를 증가시킬 뿐이라는 점”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
