도널드 트럼프 대통령은 2차 미-북 정상회담 장소로 싱가포르가 아닌 3~4곳이 논의되고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 미국이나 북한의 영토에서 열릴 수도 있다며, 자신의 마라라고 별장도 좋을 것 같다고 말했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.
트럼프 대통령은 2차 미-북 정상회담을 위한 준비가 현재 진행 중이라고 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “It is happening and we are setting that up right now. That was the part of the reason why Mike was going over to meet and they are setting up the meeting and we will be announcing that probably different location. Singapore was fantastic but we will probably do it different location.”
트럼프 대통령은 9일 백악관에서 기자들에게 마이크 폼페오 국무장관이 북한을 방문했던 이유 중 하나가 이 때문이었다며 이같이 말했습니다.
회담 장소에 대해서는 싱가포르가 아닌 곳에서 열릴 것 같다고 밝혔습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 회담이 자신의 플로리다주 ‘마라라고’ 별장에서 열릴 가능성이 있느냐는 질문에, 김정은 위원장도 이를 좋아할 것이고 자신도 좋아할 것 같지만 어떻게 될지 지켜볼 것이라고 대답했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “He would probably like that I would like that too, I think that would be good. But we will see. We are talking about three or four different locations. Timing won’t be too far away. We made a lot of progress and this meeting we … People don’t understand the importance of the first meeting. We said, point number one, denuclearization. And for some reason press doesn’t pick that up. But that is actually the point number one. We have agreed to denuclearization. And they continue to agree.”
이어 현재 3~4 곳의 장소를 논의하고 있다며, 머지 않은 시일에 회담이 열릴 것이라고 말했습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 미국이 북한과 관련해 많은 진전을 이뤘다며, 사람들은 첫 번째 정상회담의 중요성을 이해하지 못하고 있다고 강조했습니다. 1차 정상회담에서 첫 번째로 논의한 사안은 비핵화였지만 일부 언론은 이를 이해하지 못하고 있다는 겁니다.
그러면서 미국과 북한은 비핵화에 합의했고, 북한은 계속해서 이에 동의하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 북한에 대한 큰 규모의 제재가 유지되고 있다며 이를 해제하지 않았다는 점도 강조했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Now, we haven’t removed sanctions, people said what have we done, we haven’t removed sanctions. We have very big sanctions. I would love to remove them but we would have to get something.”
제재를 해제하고 싶지만 북한으로부터 무언가를 받아야만 한다는 겁니다.
트럼프 대통령은 2차 정상회담이 미국 영토에서 열릴 가능성이 있느냐는 질문에, 회담이 미국이나 북한 영토에서 열릴 수도 있다고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I don’t want to embarrass anybody by asking. I think eventually we are going to have … meetings on U.S. soil and on their soil, by the way. That is two way street, on their soil also. I think that the country of North Korea is going to be a very successful country. I think it is going to be incredibly economically successful and I want to make it that way. I think it is going to be good.”
트럼프 대통령은 북한이 매우 성공적인 나라가 될 수 있다고 생각한다며, 경제적으로 훌륭해질 수 있고 자신이 그렇게 만들고 싶다고 말했습니다.
또한 다른 나라들과 사람들, 기업인들과 은행들은 김정은 위원장이 이 결정을 내리는 시기가 오면 투자를 하고 싶어한다고 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Other countries, other people, entrepreneurs, banks, I will tell you they are calling and wanting to go there, and wanting to invest at some point when Chairman Kim makes that decision. I think he is going to unleash something that is going to be spectacular. I think he knows that I think that is one of the reasons that we are having very successful conversation.”
이어 김정은 위원장이 무언가 대단한 것을 내놓기를 바란다며, 미국이 북한과 매우 훌륭한 대화를 갖고 있는 이유는 이 때문이라고 덧붙였습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 또 자신은 김정은 위원장과 만나기로 합의했다고 거듭 강조했습니다. 그러면서, 싱가포르 회담 이후 3개월이 지났을 뿐인데 어떻게 북한 문제와 관련해 부정적이거나 실망할 수 있느냐고 반문했습니다.

I think that this … is amazing. You have no nuclear test, no rockets, and we have very good relationship with Chairman Kim, which is very important. “
이어 북한의 핵과 미사일 실험이 없었고 중요하게는 자신이 김정은 위원장과 매우 좋은 관계를 갖고 있는 것은 놀라운 일이라고 말했습니다.
그러면서 자신은 김 위원장을 좋아하고, 김 위원장도 자신을 좋아한다고 거듭 밝혔습니다.

Mike Pompeo had very very good meeting, and I mean I have spoken with him at length yesterday and he will be coming back, he will be back tonight. So I mean just the opposite, I think we have made incredible progress, beyond incredible. Some of the press really covers it accurately and right but some of the press really doesn’t.”
아울러 폼페오 장관이 북한에서 매우 좋은 만남을 가졌고, 훌륭함을 뛰어넘는 수준의 진전을 이뤄냈다고 설명했습니다.
트럼프 대통령은 일부 언론은 이를 정확하게 보도하지만 일부는 그렇지 않다고 비판했습니다.
