유엔총회가 열리고 있는 미국 뉴욕에서 미한일 외교장관 회담이 개최된다고, 미국 국무부가 밝혔습니다.
국무부 고위 당국자는 21일 전화 브리핑에서 토니 블링컨 미 국무장관이 다음날인 22일 오후 한국과 일본의 외교장관들과 회동한다면서, 3국 장관들은 “공동의 가치에 기초한 미한일 협력의 국제적 범위와 더불어 인도태평양 지역의 평화와 안정, 번영을 보존하고 증진하겠다는 약속을 강조할 것”이라고 말했습니다.
[국무부 고위 당국자] “Later in the day the Secretary will participate in a trilateral meeting with his foreign counterparts from the Republic of Korea and from Japan.The Secretary and the foreign ministers will highlight the global scope of the U.S.-Japan-ROK cooperation based on shared values, as well as our commitment to preserving and promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
이 당국자는 3국 장관의 회담이 열리는 시기가 북한의 최근 도발 분위기와 맞물려 있다는 사실도 강조했습니다.
[국무부 고위 당국자] “Well, so I guess I would say that the trilateral is well timed, given the missile tests that we’ve seen just last week, it’s a good opportunity to concert views in the wake of that.I would say more broadly that the cadence of these trilateral meetings is increasing, and it’s proved to be a very effective mechanism for sharing views, concerting positions, both with regard to the DPRK but also with regard to the Indo-Pacific and China more – and China.So I think it’ll be a useful meeting tomorrow.And obviously, I have nothing to announce on a potential meeting between President Xi and President Biden."
이 당국자는 ‘북한의 최근 미사일 발사와 영변 핵 시설에서의 움직임에 대한 미한일 3국의 대응 방향’을 묻는 기자들의 질문에 “3국 회담은 우리가 지난주 봤던 (북한의) 미사일 시험 발사를 고려할 때 적절한 시기에 이뤄지는 것이며, 이에 대한 의견을 모으는 좋은 기회”라고 대답했습니다.
이어 “좀 더 폭넓게 말하자면 3국의 만남 분위기는 늘고 있다”면서 “이는 북한과 인도태평양 그리고 중국에 대해 의견을 나누고 입장을 조율하는 데 매우 효과적인 장치”라고 덧붙였습니다.
이 당국자는 이에 따라 다음날 열리는 3국 외교장관 회담이 “매우 유용할 것으로 생각한다”고 말했습니다.
