국무부는 미국이 한반도 긴장을 높이고 있다는 중국 등의 주장을 일축했습니다. 잇따라 탄도미사일을 발사하는 북한을 거듭 규탄하면서 이 사안을 면밀히 주시할 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
미국 국무부는 불안정한 행동을 하는 장본인은 북한이라고 지적했습니다.
베단트 파텔 국무부 수석부대변인은 7일 정례브리핑에서 북한 문제의 책임을 미국에 돌리는 중국 등의 주장에 대한 논평 요청에 “불안정을 초래하는 행동의 책임이 누구에게 있느냐고 묻는 것이라면 답은 분명하다”며 “그건 북한”이라고 답했습니다.
[녹취: 파텔 부대변인] “Well, if your question is who is responsible for the destabilizing actions? That is very clear. It is the DPRK, which this week we have seen a number of ballistic missile tests, all of which are in clear violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and not just pose a threat to its immediate neighbors but also the region. On October 5th at the UN Security Council, we held a meeting to join our allies and denouncing these actions.”
그러면서 “(북한은) 이번 주에만 여러 발의 탄도미사일을 시험 발사했다”며 “이 모든 것은 다수의 안보리 결의 위반이고, 주변국뿐 아니라 역내에 위협을 가한다”고 말했습니다.
이어 “우리는 10월 5일 유엔 안보리에서 동맹과 회의를 개최하고 (북한의) 이런 행동을 비난했다”고 덧붙였습니다.
파텔 부대변인은 “오늘 앞서 본 것처럼 재무부는 대북 불법 정제유 운송에 관여한 개인과 기관에 대한 새로운 제재를 부과했다”며 “우리는 이 사안에 면밀히 주의를 기울이고, 동맹·파트너와 관여할 것”이라고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 파텔 부대변인] “And as many of you saw earlier today, the Department of Treasury announced a new package of sanctions, newly designating individuals and entities connected to the unlawful delivery of refined petroleum to the DPRK. So we're going to continue to pay close attention to this and engage with our allies and partners. As a matter of fact, Special Representative Sung Kim had the opportunity to speak to his counterparts within the ROK and Japan today. And so, this is again something we're going to pay close attention to, and continue to monitor.”
또한 이날 성 김 국무부 대북특별대표가 한일 북핵수석대표와 전화통화를 한 사실을 상기시키면서 “이것은 우리가 각별한 주의를 기울이고, 계속 주시할 사안”이라고 강조했습니다.
