백악관은 북한의 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 발사에 대해 안보리 결의에 위배되고 역내 긴장을 고조시킨다며 강력히 규탄했습니다. 미국과 동맹국의 안전을 보장하기 위해 모든 조치를 취할 것이라고 강조했습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
에이드리언 왓슨 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 대변인은 15일 “미국은 북한의 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 발사를 강력히 규탄한다”고 밝혔습니다.
[백악관 성명] “The United States strongly condemns the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) Intercontinental ballistic missile test. This launch is a flagrant violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions. While U.S. INDOPACOM has assessed it did not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel, or territory, or to our allies, this launch needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region.”
왓슨 대변인은 이날 발표한 성명에서 “이번 발사는 유엔 안보리 여러 결의에 대한 명백한 위반”이라고 지적했습니다.
그러면서 “미국 인도태평양사령부는 이번 일이 미국 개인이나 영토, 또는 우리의 동맹국에 즉각적인 위협이 되지 않는다고 평가했지만, 이번 발사는 불필요하게 긴장을 고조시키고 역내 안보 상황을 불안정하게 만들 위험이 있다”고 비판했습니다.
이어 “이번 일은 북한이 주민들의 안위보다 불법적인 대량살상무기와 탄도미사일 프로그램을 계속 우선시한다는 것을 보여줄 뿐”이라며 “우리는 모든 국가가 이런 위반 행위를 규탄할 것을 촉구하고, 북한에는 불안정한 행동을 중단하고 진지한 대화에 관여할 것을 요구한다”고 말했습니다.
[백악관 성명] “It only demonstrates that the DPRK continues to prioritize its unlawful weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs over the well-being of its people. We urge all countries to condemn these violations and call on the DPRK to cease its destabilizing actions and engage in serious dialogue. The national security team is closely coordinating with our allies and partners. The United States will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the American homeland and Republic of Korea and Japanese allies.”
왓슨 대변인은 “국가안보팀은 동맹, 파트너와 긴밀히 조율하고 있다”며 “미국은 미국 본토와 동맹인 한국, 일본의 안전을 보장하기 위해 필요한 모든 조치를 취할 것”이라고 강조했습니다.
