북한이 최근 장거리 탄도미사일을 발사한 가운데 미 전략폭격기들이 한반도 주변에서 작전을 펼칠 것이라고 미국 공군이 밝혔습니다.
미국 태평양공군은 12일 최근 괌과 일본에 전개된 B-52H와 B-1B 등 미군 전략폭격기들의 움직임과 관련한 VOA 서면 질의에 이같이 답했습니다.
[태평양공군] “The bombers won’t be flying over North Korea, but they will be operating around the Korean Peninsula...PACAF conducts missions both unilaterally and multilaterally throughout the Indo-Pacific in as we train alongside our Allies and partners to build interoperability
and bolster our collective ability to support a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
다만 작전 보안상 이유로 폭격기들의 비행 위치 등 세부 사항에 대해선 확인할 수 없다고 덧붙였습니다.
태평양공군은 “폭격기 기동부대 임무는 역내 동맹과 파트너를 지원하면서 적대국이나 경쟁국의 영향력이나 침략을 억제, 거부, 지배할 수 있는 태평양공군의 능력을 보여주기 위해 고안됐다”고 말했습니다.
[태평양공군] “Bomber Task Force missions are designed to show PACAF's ability to deter, deny, and dominate any influence or aggression from adversaries or competitors while supporting our Allies and Partners in the region. Bomber Task Force missions are pre-planned deployments and not tied to any one country or threat.”
이어 “폭격기 태스크포스 임무는 사전 배치 계획에 따른 것이며 특정 국가나 위협과 관련이 없다”고 덧붙였습니다.
한편 태평양공군은 현재 B-1B와 B-52H 등 미 전략폭격기 10대가 일본과 괌에 있는 미 공군기지에 전개된 상황이라는 점도 확인했습니다.
