미국은 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄했습니다. 이번 발사가 다수의 유엔 안보리 결의 위반이라며 동맹 및 파트너와 긴밀히 협의하고 있다고 강조했습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
국무부는 “미국은 북한의 17일(워싱턴 시각) 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄한다”고 밝혔습니다.
[국무부 대변인] “The United States condemns the DPRK’s September 17, 2024 ballistic missile launches (Washington time). These launches, like all the DPRK’s other ballistic missile launches in recent years, are in violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions. They pose a threat to regional and international peace and security and undermine the global nonproliferation regime.”
"발사 규탄...안보리 결의 위반"
국무부 대변인은 17일 VOA의 관련 논평 요청에 “이번 발사는 최근 몇 년간 북한이 실시한 다른 탄도미사일 발사와 마찬가지로 다수의 유엔 안보리 결의에 위배된다“고 지적했습니다.
그러면서 “이들 발사는 역내 및 국제 평화와 안보에 위협을 가하고 국제 비확산체제를 약화시킨다”고 말했습니다.
이어 “우리는 북한의 침략을 억제하고 북한의 유엔 안보리 결의 위반에 대한 국제사회의 대응을 조율하는 최상의 방안에 관해 우리의 동맹, 파트너와 계속해서 긴밀히 협의하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
[국무부 대변인] “We continue to consult closely with our allies and partners about how best to deter DPRK aggression and coordinate international responses to the DPRK’s violations of multiple UN Security Council resolutions. Our commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan is ironclad.”
또한 “한국, 일본에 대한 우리의 방위 공약은 철통같다”고 강조했습니다.
인태사령부 "불안정한 행동 자제 촉구"
인도태평양사령부도 이날 성명을 통해 "미국은 북한의 탄도미사일 발사 행위를 규탄하며 추가적인 불법적이고 불안정한 행동을 자제할 것을 촉구한다”고 밝혔습니다.
[인태사령부 성명] “We are aware of the DPRK’s ballistic missile launches and are consulting closely with the Republic of Korea and Japan, as well as other regional allies and partners. The United States condemns these actions and calls on the DPRK to refrain from further unlawful and destabilizing acts. While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel, or territory, or to our allies, we continue to monitor the situation. The U.S. commitments to the defense of the ROK and Japan remain ironclad.”
인태사령부는 “우리는 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 인지하고 있으며 한국, 일본을 비롯한 기타 역내 동맹국 및 파트너들과 긴밀히 협의하고 있다”고 전했습니다.
이어 “이번 발사가 미국 인력이나 영토, 동맹국에 즉각적인 위협을 가하지 않는다고 평가하고 있지만, 상황을 계속 주시하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
그러면서 “한국과 일본에 대한 미국의 방위 공약은 철통같다”고 강조했습니다.
앞서 한국 합동참모본부는 북한이 한반도 시각 18일 오전 6시 50분경 평안남도 개천 일대에서 동북 방향으로 단거리 탄도미사일 수 발을 발사했다고 밝혔습니다.
북한의 탄도미사일 발사는 지난 12일 이후 6일 만입니다.
