미국 인도태평양사령부는 북한의 미사일 도발과 관련해 “우리는 (북한의) 탄도미사일 발사를 알고 있으며 동맹·파트너와 긴밀히 협의하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
[미 인도태평양 사령부] “We are aware of the ballistic missile launches and are consulting closely with our allies and partners. While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies, the recent series of DPRK ballistic missile tests highlight the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program. The U.S. commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad.”
인도태평양사령부는 26일 발표한 성명에서 “이번 발사는 미국 측 인력이나 영토, 동맹에 직접적인 위협을 가하지는 않는다고 판단하지만, 최근 연속으로 이뤄진 북한의 탄도 미사일 발사는 북한의 불법 무기 프로그램이 일으키는 불안정성을 잘 보여준다”고 지적했습니다.
그러면서 “한국과 일본에 대한 미국의 방어 공약은 여전히 철통같다”고 강조했습니다.
주일미군은 26일 북한의 미사일 시험 발사에 대한 VOA의 서면 질의에 “우리는 역내 (미군) 주둔국과의 강력한 협력에 관한 우리의 최근 성명을 반복하고 싶다”고 답했습니다.
[주일미군 공보실] “We just would like to repeat our statement that was given to you lately about the strong cooperation with our host countries in the region.”
