뉴질랜드는 최근 일본에 배치된 해상 정찰기가 한국 해군과 훈련을 실시했다고 밝혔습니다. 이번 배치는 일상적인 해상 순찰 목적으로 북한 불법 해상 활동 감시와는 관련이 없다고 설명했습니다. 박동정 기자가 보도합니다.
뉴질랜드 방위군은 27일 일본에 배치된 자국 공군이 한국 해군과 훈련을 했다고 밝혔습니다.
[뉴질랜드 방위군 대변인] “On this deployment, our crew have also trained with Republic of Korea Naval Air Command counterparts. Training opportunities such as this are essential to maintaining inter-operability with our regional counterparts and are highly valued by the NZDF and our personnel who enjoy and benefit from the professional engagement with military partners.
뉴질랜드 방위군 대변인은 이날 VOA에 보낸 이메일에서 “우리 승무원들은 한국 해군 항공사령부 소속 승무원들과 훈련을 했다”고 설명했습니다.
이어 “이 같은 훈련 기회는 역내 파트너와의 상호 운용성을 유지하는 데 필수적”이라고 강조했습니다.
그러면서 “뉴질랜드 공군의 P-3K2 오리온이 이전에 유엔 안보리 대북제재를 지원하기 위해 해상 순찰에 투입된 적이 있지만 이번 배치는 그와 관련이 없다”고 말했습니다.
[뉴질랜드 방위군 대변인] “While a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3K2 Orion has been previously deployed on maritime patrols in support of United Nations Security Council sanctions on North Korea, this particular deployment is not in relation to that. However while in Japan the crew will be discussing the work of US 7th Fleet combating illicit maritime activities including ship to ship transfers prohibited under UN resolutions.”
“다만 일본에 있는 동안 승무원들은 유엔 결의에 따라 금지된 선박 간 환적을 포함한 불법적인 해상 활동을 단속하는 미 7함대의 작업에 대해 논의할 것”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
뉴질랜드 공군은 지난 24일 트위터를 통해 P-3K2 오리온 해상정찰기가 일본 요코타 공군 기지에 도착했다고 전했습니다.
이와 관련해 뉴질랜드 방위군 대변인은 VOA에 “P-3K2 오리온은 일상적인 해상 순찰을 수행하기 위해 배치됐다”고 밝혔습니다.
[뉴질랜드 방위군 대변인] “The P-3K2 Orion has been deployed to undertake routine maritime patrols. These patrols are a regular activity that have been conducted for over 40 years as part of ongoing engagement in support of our partners in the region. They demonstrate our continued interest in and commitment to the region. New Zealand continues to act in support of the maintenance of the rules based international system, demonstrating support for the unrestricted freedom of overflight over international waters as guaranteed in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).”
이어 “이러한 순찰은 역내 파트너를 지원하기 위한 지속적인 관여의 일환으로 40년 이상 수행돼 온 정기적인 활동”이라고 말했습니다.
그러면서 “이는 이 지역에 대한 우리의 지속적인 관심과 의지를 보여준다”고 덧붙였습니다.
