미국 국무부는 “미국 국가안보팀이 동맹, 파트너와 긴밀히 협력해 북한의 정찰위성 발사를 면밀히 평가하고 있다”고 밝혔습니다.
국무부 대변인은 28일 정찰위성으로 백악관 등 미국의 주요 시설을 촬영했다는 북한의 주장과 관련한 VOA의 이메일 논평 요청에 이같이 말했습니다.
[국무부 대변인] “Our national security team is closely assessing the purported launch by the DPRK of a reconnaissance satellite in close coordination with our allies and partners. We are also watching for any developments in cooperation between the DPRK and Russia on space-related technology transfers.”
이어 “우리는 또한 우주관련 기술에 대한 북한과 러시아 간 협력의 진전 상황을 주시하고 있다”고 덧붙였습니다.
국무부 대변인은 “미국은 탄도미사일 기술을 이용해 우주발사체(SLV)를 발사한 북한을 강력히 규탄한다”며 “이는 여러 유엔 안보리 결의를 노골적으로 위반하고 긴장을 고조시키며 역내와 그 너머의 상황을 불안정하게 만들 위험이 있다”고 지적했습니다.
[국무부 대변인] “The United States strongly condemns the DPRK for its launch of a space launch vehicle (SLV) using ballistic missile technology, which is a brazen violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, raises tensions, and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond. This space launch involved technologies that are directly related to the DPRK intercontinental ballistic missile program. The DPRK’s developments in its space program have implications for regional and global security, and we call on all nations to abide by relevant UNSC resolutions.”
또한 “이번 우주 발사에는 북한의 대륙간탄도미사일 프로그램과 직접적으로 관련이 있는 기술도 포함돼 있다”고 강조했습니다.
그러면서 “북한의 우주 프로그램 개발은 역내와 세계 안보에 영향을 미친다”며 “우리는 모든 나라가 관련 유엔 안보리 결의를 준수할 것을 촉구한다”고 국무부 대변인은 밝혔습니다.
앞서 북한 대외 관영 ‘조선중앙통신’은 김정은 국무위원장이 한반도 시각 27일 오후 11시 35분 53초 미국 버지니아주 노퍽 해군기지와 뉴포트 뉴스 조선소, 비행장 지역을 촬영한 자료와 27일 오후 11시 36분 25초 백악관, 펜타곤 등을 촬영한 자료를 구체적으로 보고받았다고 전했습니다.
