유엔이 북한의 핵무기 관련 활동과 이에 따른 역내 긴장 고조에 대해 우려를 표했습니다. 북한엔 안보리 결의 준수를, 관련국들엔 대화 분위기 조성을 촉구했습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
안토니우 구테흐스 유엔 사무총장이 “한반도에서 긴장이 고조되는 데 대해 여전히 우려한다”는 입장을 밝혔습니다.
스테판 두자릭 유엔 대변인은 15일 정례브리핑에서 “핵무기와 관련된 북한의 지속적인 활동은 안보리 결의에 따른 의무에 위배된다”는 구테흐스 사무총장의 메시지를 전했습니다.
그러면서 “(구테흐스) 사무총장은 북한이 모든 관련 안보리 결의에 따른 국제적 의무를 완전히 준수할 것을 거듭 촉구한다”고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 두자릭 대변인] “The Secretary-General remains concerned about the rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea's continuing activities relating to nuclear weapons are contrary to its obligations under the relevant Security Council resolutions. The Secretary-General reiterates his call for the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions.”
이어 “사무총장은 긴장 완화와 대화 재개를 지속적으로 요구해왔고, 모든 관련국에 대화에 도움이 되는 환경을 조성할 것을 촉구해왔다”고 지적했습니다.
[녹취: 두자릭 대변인] “The Secretary-General has consistently called for de-escalation, the resumption of talks and for all concerned to foster an environment that is conducive to dialogue. Diplomatic engagement remains the only pathway to sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”
그러면서 “외교적 관여는 지속 가능한 평화와 한반도의 완전하고 검증 가능한 비핵화를 위한 유일한 길로 남아있다”고 강조했습니다.
