조 바이든 미국 대통령이 새로 취임한 이시바 시게루 일본 총리와 처음으로 통화했습니다. 두 정상은 미한일 협력을 강화하고, 북한 문제를 포함한 국제 정세에 대응하기 위한 공조를 재확인했습니다. 안소영 기자가 보도합니다.
조 바이든 미국 대통령은 1일 이시바 시게루 일본 신임 총리에게 전화를 걸어 그의 취임을 축하하고, 양국 간 협력뿐만 아니라 한국을 포함한 파트너 국가들과의 협력 강화를 약속했다고 백악관이 밝혔습니다.
백악관은 이날 발표한 보도자료를 통해 “바이든 대통령은 미일 동맹이 70년 넘게 역내 평화와 번영의 주춧돌 역할을 해왔다”며 “기시다 후미오 전 총리 정부에서 동맹이 새로운 차원으로 도약했다”고 강조했다고 전했습니다.
[백악관] “President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. called Ishiba Shigeru today to congratulate him on his election by the Diet to become Prime Minister of Japan. The President underscored that the U.S.-Japan Alliance has served as the cornerstone of regional peace and prosperity for over seven decades and rose to new heights under former Prime Minister Kishida. The President said he looked forward to working closely with Prime Minister Ishiba to continue deepening the U.S.-Japan global partnership across the full range of security, economic, technology, and diplomatic issues.”
바이든 대통령은 안보, 경제, 기술, 외교 전반에 걸쳐 미일 글로벌 파트너십을 계속 강화하기 위해 이시바 총리와 긴밀히 협력할 의지를 밝혔습니다.
아울러 “두 정상은 미국과 일본 국민이 자유롭고 개방적이며 안전하고 번영하는 세계 질서를 수호하겠다는 약속을 포함해 깊이 뿌리내린 가치와 원칙을 공유하고 있음을 주목했다”고 전했습니다.
[백악관] “The two leaders noted that the American and Japanese people share deeply rooted values and principles, including a commitment to uphold a global order that is free, open, secure, and prosperous. The President and Prime Minister reaffirmed their resolve to continue strengthening defense cooperation and to maintain peace and stability across the region. They also underscored their commitment to enhance regional cooperation through a latticework of likeminded partners, including cooperation with Australia and India through the Quad and through trilateral partnerships with the Republic of Korea and the Philippines.”
그러면서 “바이든 대통령과 이시바 총리는 국방 협력을 지속적으로 강화하고, 역내 평화와 안정을 유지하겠다는 결의를 재확인했다”고 설명했습니다.
두 정상은 또한 “쿼드를 통한 호주 및 인도와의 협력, 그리고 한국 및 필리핀과의 3자 파트너십을 포함해 뜻을 같이하는 파트너들과의 협력을 강화하겠다는 의지를 강조했다”고 백악관은 밝혔습니다.
일본 총리실도 이날 보도자료를 통해 두 정상이 “현지 시각 2일 오전 8시부터 약 15분간 통화했다”고 전했습니다.
이어 “이시바 총리는 미일 동맹 강화를 현 정부의 외교 및 안보 정책의 최우선 과제로 삼고 있으며, 자유롭고 개방적인 국제 질서의 중심에서 미국과 글로벌 파트너로서 긴밀히 협력해 나가길 원한다고 말했다”고 소개했습니다.
[일본 총리실] “Prime Minister Ishiba stated that strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance is a top priority of the administration’s foreign and security policy and that he wants to continue working closely together with the U.S. as global partners at the core of a free and open international order. The two leaders concurred on further developing networks of like-minded countries, including Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan-Australia-India-U.S., and Japan-U.S.-Philippines. The two leaders concurred on continuing working closely on issues related to China, dealing with North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and the situation in Ukraine.”
이어 “두 정상은 미일-한국, 미일-호주-인도, 그리고 미일-필리핀과 같이 뜻을 같이하는 국가들 간 네트워크를 더욱 발전시키는 데 의견을 같이했다.”고 전했습니다.
아울러 “이들은 중국과 관련된 문제, 핵과 미사일 문제 및 납치 문제를 포함한 북한 사안, 그리고 우크라이나 상황에 대해 긴밀해 협력해 나가기로 뜻을 모았다”고 일본 총리실은 설명했습니다.
또한, 두 정상은 적절한 시기에 대면 정상회담을 조기에 실현할 수 있도록 일정 조율을 지속하기로 했습니다.
